Mongolian Tofu Oil Free
This recipe for oil-free Mongolian tofu retains all the flavor without being overly oily. Crispy tofu is coated in a savory, slightly sweet sauce that gives a healthier take on the traditional Mongolian dish.
Ingredients:
- 400g extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- Cooked rice, for serving
Instructions:
In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger
Add cubed tofu to the sauce mixture and let it marinate for 15-30 minutes
In a large skillet, add marinated tofu along with the marinade
Cook over medium heat until tofu is heated through and sauce thickens, about 10-12 minutes
In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to make a slurry
Stir it into the skillet to further thicken the sauce
Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot over cooked rice
